October Curriculum

This month, our Chappell classrooms are exploring one of the most exciting themes of the school year: Community Helpers. Children are discovering the important people who help keep our neighborhoods safe, healthy, and running smoothly. Through hands‑on activities, stories, and dramatic play, students are learning about doctors, dentists, and many other helpers who make a difference every day.

In our infant, toddler, and preschool rooms, teachers are introducing community helpers in developmentally appropriate ways. Children are practicing simple health routines as they learn about doctors and nurses, exploring pretend check‑ups, listening to heartbeats, and talking about how these helpers keep us healthy. When learning about dentists, classes are focusing on brushing, healthy habits, and what happens during a friendly dental visit. Among many others.

Beyond health helpers, students are also meeting a wide variety of community heroes—firefighters, police officers, mail carriers, construction workers, teachers, and more. Through books, songs, and imaginative play centers, children are discovering how each helper contributes to our community and how we can show appreciation for their work.

This theme supports early social studies learning while also building vocabulary, confidence, and real‑world understanding. Most importantly, it helps children see themselves as part of a caring community where everyone has an important role.

We look forward to continuing this learning throughout the month and sharing more of the wonderful activities happening across all Chappell Schools locations.
