All About Me and My Five Senses – Curriculum Post

The first weeks of school set the tone for everting that follows. At Chappell Schools, we understand that children learn best when they feel safe and they belong. This is why we begin the year with an intentional focus on All About Me, which includes My Five Senses. This is fun tradition is a foundational step in building a learning community where every child feels valued and accepted.

Young learners arrive with unique backgrounds, interests, and experiences. The All About Me unit helps children explore their identities while learning about the similarities and differences among their peers. This supports social-emotional development, oral language growth, and early literacy skills. It also gives teachers essential insight into each child’s strengths, needs, and communication style.

The addition of My five Senses deepens this learning by helping children understand how they explore and make sense of the world. Sensory experiences are essential in early childhood; they strengthen attention, build vocabulary, support cognitive development, and are exciting. When children use their senses intentionally, they become active learners who love to explore!
